Letter to the participants of the Chère Amie_issue 1 “Absolute Beginners”

This magazine had a start a very long time ago, even when I still did not think that it could become something.
I often felt that I was living only as an observer of my own life and I was for a very long time jealous of people that had passion, skill and creativity to create something. I admired it immensely, and still do. From painting to poetry to playing a guitar. I always felt left out, but not by the people I was so attracted to and curious about. I was leaving myself out. As if I always stroke to be able to do something that I so much liked but never had the talent or even the actual desire. I always tried to push myself into it even though it didn’t feel natural.
Time went by and the situations did not change but I finally realised that the part I enjoy the most is me living through those situations and artistry, experience it, not making it.

This magazine is dedicated to all my friends and the people I met along the way that never let me feel left out because of my “non artistry”, but included me and shared with me the most intimate moments.
This is dedicated to bringing to life a collection of emotions and experiences narrated through any type of art there is or could be. This is a pure presentation of the amazing people that are all over the world, that write in their notes or draw in the sketchbook and feel the most of the time that it will be something always just for only their enjoyment.
This is a demonstration of how our personal creations can change the world and move people by just sharing.

At the begging we thought about choosing a theme for the first issue, and if there ever be others to do the same and collect works that would reflect it. After starting the organization of it all we realized that the first one should be a presentation and include everything that everybody would ever want to share…

…but what title should it have?
I randomly heard the song absolute beginners by David Bowie and that was it.
Bowie talks about love but I wouldn’t describe my feeling any other way if not love for all the people I meet and for what they do with their time and their emotions to try and translate it or give it a form, a way for themselves and for the people around them.
What are we if not absolute beginners of which many or even ourselves would say and think that maybe it is not much to offer. It is not much compared to everything happening in this world but these are our words, our feelings, our experiences and our presentation of what we are and what we do.

Enjoy this amazing trip through the works of my friends that were extremely generous with their experiences.

Baci,

Sofija & Emily
